Unfortunately, research from 2005 is considered old by journalistic standards.

We may not need carbohydrates or fiber to survive. I could stay alive by eating the dead rats that my kitty leaves by my door as a daily offering.

As a health and Wellness leader, my goal is to help individuals thrive, not merely survive.

When humans were hunter-gatherers, we lived on a wide range of diets. Some lived exclusively on whale meat and fat, and others lived primarily on nuts, seeds, and plants with little access to animal proteins.

There were no chronic diseases, and obesity was rare to non-existent.

Currently, many individuals live on the food-like products produced by the food industry, which are almost void of nutritional value, and chock-full of chemicals, low-quality fats and sugars, and sodium. And their products are engineered to increase their hunger and induce cravings for more of their diabolical dishes.

As a result, their gut microbiomes are half-starved and lacking in the diversity necessary for optimal health. Which is one reason why depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues are at an all-time high.

Since our gut microbes live primarily in our lower intestines, they live off the high fiber foods we eat.

I teach people that no whole, nutritious food is off-limits.

They should eat an enormous variety of helathy fats, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and proteins.

There is no secret to weight loss!

There are five factors involved:

Your gut

Your food

Your activity level

Your stress level

Your sleep

I get very weary of the diet industry and health professionals telling people not to eat certain fruits and vegetables or avoid whole grains or other beneficial food groups.

And that’s why I clapped for this article.

People should eat foods that taste fantastic, minimize their risk of chronic disease, feed their gut bacteria, and give them energy and mental clarity.

Preferably, they should cook the majority of their meals at home.

And if they take care of the other factors I mentioned, they won’t have to worry about excess weight.

Unless genetics are involved, but that’s a tiny percentage of the population.

Cheers

Janet
