Hi Chetan,

Thank you for the compliment and for engaging. Here are the answers to your questions.

  1. There are different strains of mushrooms, and Psilocybin mushrooms are a non-poisonous strain. Other strains of mushrooms are poisonous, but a non-poisonous mushroom strain can’t become a deadly strain, and a poisonous strain can’t become non-poisonous.

Think of strains as a brand kind of like Coke and Pepsi. They’re both soda, right? In this analogy, Coke is one strain of soda, and Pepsi is another strain. Even though they’re both soda, a Pepsi can’t become a Coke, and a Coke can’t become a Pepsi.

The only way you could end up with poisonous mushrooms is if you grew a toxic mushroom strain.

To test a freshly harvested mushroom to be sure it’s a psychoactive (psychedelic) strain, pinch off a little piece. The mushroom will become slightly blue where you pinched it, like a bruise.

2. Bacterial infections happen when your birthing cake is still forming in the mason jars. If you see any color other than white, it’s most likely harmful bacteria that got into the jar during inoculation. So, if you see brown, green, or black spots inside your jar, don’t open it, just throw it out.

3. Healthy will smell earthy and fresh, similar to the mushrooms you buy at the grocery store. Mushrooms aren’t very fragrant. To me, they smell like soil. Look at some images of psilocybin mushroom to see what a healthy mushroom looks like.

There is no way to tell if a mushroom is poisonous by its smell. And even experienced mycologists can’t always identify a toxic mushroom by how it looks, which is why you never, ever eat a mushroom if you’re not 100-percent positive of what type it is.

I hope this helps.
